Analysing the opening to 'The Dark Knight Rises'

The Dark Knight Rises is a 2012 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, who co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan and the story with David S. Goyer. Featuring the DC Comics character Batman, the film is the final in Nolan's Batman film trilogy, and it is the sequel to Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). Christian Bale reprises the lead role of Bruce Wayne/Batman

Eight years after Harvey Dent's death, the Dent Act grants the Gotham City Police Department powers which nearly eradicate organized crime. Feeling guilty for covering up Dent's crimes, Police Commissioner James Gordon writes a resignation speech confessing the truth, but decides not to use it. Batman has disappeared and Bruce Wayne has gone into hiding. A masked man Bane has a secret plan and kidnaps a scientist and destroys a plane with people thinking the scientist dies. Cat burglar Selina Kyle obtains Bruce's fingerprints from his home, kidnaps a congressman, then disappears. Selina hands Bruce's fingerprints to Phillip Stryver, an assistant to Bruce's business rival John Daggett, in hope of having her criminal record erased. Stryver tricks Selina, but she uses the congressman's stolen phone to alert the police to their location. Gordon and the police arrive to find the congressman, then pursue Stryver's men into the sewers while Selina flees. Bane captures Gordon, Gordon escapes and is found by John Blake, a once-orphaned patrol officer.

The title is in capitals to make it seem more bold and more intriguing for the audience also its in white to show the innocence in his being and how he wants to protect his city.

The opening sequence starts with the breaking of the ice to eventually to make out the batman sign which could suggest that he prolonged sleep may be breaking and that he may come back which pulls in the audience as it shows them something is going to happen later in the film. It then cuts to the eighth year anniversary of Harvey Dents Death. A wide shot shows the Commissioner Gordon Standing making a speech to his fellow citizens. Then change into a low shot showing a dark figure on top of building, the dark lighting show ths darkness about the film it always shows how Batman is a friend to this darkness which id the link between Bruce and Batman.

I this film I think that the editing between cuts is more effective as the speed of the shots increases the speed of the action which intrigues the audience to watch more.
